in 1487, in the reign of King Henry VII, we find Richard Merywether of Shepherdswell, Kent, leaving in his will, various bushels of Barley, and two sheep, for various Lights, and to support eight Tapers before the Sepulchre at Easter, until the last Mass on Easter Day.
From Testamemta Cantiana page 306:- Sibertswold Bequest for the maintenance of eight tapers before the image of St Mary, and two ewes and a pound of Wax. Richard Meryweather 1487.
