MONUMENTS IN SHEPHERDSWELL CHURCH
On the South Wall of the Nave, near this monument lie the remains of John Lownds, Esq., of Place House in this Parish and of Overton and Lea Hallin Cheshire, Receiver of the land tax for Kent, Derbyshire, and two other counties who died 30 June 1734, aged 52.
Also of Ann his wife the daughter of Mr. Will and Mrs. Sarah Merywether of Sibertswold who departed this life on the 16 Nov. following in the48th year of her age.
They had issue, one son, and three daughters, both of whom died in their infancy.
Sarah Lowndes their only surviving daughter and wife of Awnsham Churchill, Esq., of Henbury in Dorsetshire, son and heir of Awnsham Churchill, Esq., M.P. for Dorchester, and a relation of John, the great Duke of Marlborough ordered this monument to be erected to the memory ofher deceased parents.
