Bulkington. In 1560 the Edington Manor having passed to the Crown at the Dissolution was granted to George Worth of Dauntsey.
He died the following year leaving an infant son George who held Bulkington for over 60 years. His only Son Edward died in his fathers lifetime leaving five sisters to succeed the property. George Worth promised Robert Nicholes of Roundway, husband of his daughter Margaret that she should have her share of it, but in 1625 he settled the whole Manor on the issue of his daughter Isabel when she Married Francis Merewether of Market Lavington. In spite of the opposition of one of the sisters, Francis Merewether held Bulkington until 1649 when he sold the Manor except the capital house and demeanes to Samuel Sheppard of Bisley, Gloucestershire. The farm and demesnes of Bulkington reserved out of the sale of the manor in 1649 were settled in 1660 on the vendor's son Francis of Easterton.
NOTE In 1695 the Farm, then called Worth's farm was again settled by Francis Merewether but no more is known of its history until 1773 when it was held by the Rev. William Long, from whom it passed to Francis Longcer 1790 and thence in 1813 to Rev. James Long.
