Easter Ann Merryweather married 4 years after the birth of George to George Cottingham in Bracebridge, Lincoln, where she was born and brought up. We have always presumed that this first child was baptised in Branston "out of the way" because she was a single parent. George Cottingham could have been the father but at the time of the birth he would only have been 15 years old. A family story from a very elderly relative says that Easter had an affair with the lord of the manors son (a local hall where she worked at that time).
