My Great Grandfather, John Henry Smith, married not one - but two - of
the daughters of Luke and Emma Merryweather. He was married firstly to
Ann Merryweather and a few years after her early death, he married Alice
Maud - her sister!
I have been charting my family tree and writing a book which (to date)
goes back to 1688. The only gap I have, strangely enough, concerns my
Great Grandfather John Henry Smith - the last "sighting" I have of him
and his second wife Alice Maud (Merryweather) was in Sedgehill in 1913.
He appears on the electoral role in that year. There were no electoral
roles produced in the years 1914-18 due to the war. On the next available
role in 1919, he does not appear, nor does his wife Alice Maud, who by
this time, was eligible to vote.
