I am descended from the Battersea Merryweathers. My Grandmother was
Alice Maud Merryweather, daughter of William Merryweather. She was
married twice. Firstly to Hugh Benjamin ("Harry") Ridgway, and then to
my grandfather, Leslie Walter Matthew Wynne.
They were married on 2nd July 1921 in Wandsworth.
She had four children. Dorothy (Ridgway), and Maud, Leslie and Ronald
Wynne. Leslie (my father) and Ronald are both now dead, but Maud is
still alive aged 81.
Alice died on 7th December 1965 in Langthorne Hospital, Leytonstone
London, having lived for many years in Somerset. Unfortunately, as she
died when I was only three, I have very little recollection of her,
although I do have photographs.
I was particularly excited to see mention of the gathering of the
Merryweathers in the cinema in Clapham in 1948, as this was a legendary
occasion in my family. I believe my parents were there.
