1373 John Mereworth of Melmain alienated his interest in Mereworth to Sir
John Merewether Of Bramber Sussex, (pos son in law)
Sir John a citizen of London and Lord Mayor in the first year year of
King Richard the second of England.
He was Knighted for his services against the rebel Wat Tyler, he
represented the City of London in the Parliment of the said King Richard.
Arms of John Malmains Ermine a chief gules and three left hands couped
silver on the chief,
Parchment in British Museum.
For this same deed our Lord the King beneath his standard in the field,
with his own hands Decorated with the order of Knighthood the said Mayor
and Sir Nicholas of Brembre (Mereworth) and Sir John Philpot, who had
already been Mayors or the said City, as also Sir Robert Launde.
