Will of Christopher Meriwether of Hilperton, Wilts, Gent. 17 July 1658.
To the poor of Hilperton 10 shillings.
To my son Christopher 20 shillings.
To my son William 20 shillings.
To my son Edward 20 shillings.
To my son in law Mr William Adlam 20 shillings. and to his wife Jane 30
shillings.
To my grandchild Mary Meriwether daughter of my said son Edward 5 pounds.
Whereas I am possessed by several devises of capitol Mess'ge or mansion
house or farm of Hilperton also Hilperton Zouch and lands in Steeple
Ashton and Whaddon, Wilts for divers years determinable on deaths of me,
my said son Christopher. my son John and my now wife Bridget.
Now to my wife close of pasture called Balls, of 6 acres, close of
pasture called Cowleaze and another thereunto both of 16 acres, of arable
in the Westfeild Near Cowleaze and one and half acres called Longland, 2
acres of arable in the Eastfeild in Redford near Huntslease and a close
of arable adjoining Mr Simpsons Orchard 10 acres and half of said mess'ge
for her life.
To my son Geffery said Balls close and 10 acres near Shipmans Orchard and
said half of the mess'ge from my wife's death for the rest of years.
To said son Geffery four closes called Breeches with sheephouses thereon
24 acres, part of said farm but issues thereof to my wife till said
Geffery be 21 for his maintenance.
If said Geffery die under 21, close called the Upper Breach for his life
and rest to my son John.
To said son Geffery, mess'ge and lands in Marston, Wilts im possession of
Mary Ashley widow in tail in default to my said son John in Fee.
Whereas I hold by Ind're of lease dated 20 april 1654 made by John Slade
and Richard Slade, Gent to me of a close called the Breach of 4 acres in
Hilperton for 99 years if said sons Geffery and John and Edward should so
long live, same to said son Geffery.
Rest of goods to my wife Bridget and my son John and they to be Exors.
At my wifes death her half of the house to my said son Geffery.
My friends Mr William Blagden, Mr Thomas Sumner and Henry Willet to be
overseers and to them 10 shillings apiece.
