From Biographical sketches of the OTIS Family
Judge Joseh is spoken of by his contemporaries as a gentleman of great
Integrity, a judicious and useful citizen. The following portrait was
written of him soon after he death; He was a Christian upon principal, a
public spired and useful Man, distinguished by talents of the solid,
judicious and useful, rather than of the Brilliant kind. He was of large
stature his countenance Soleman and serene, frank and opened in his
manner of ready wit and sound understanding. As a private individual he
had the union of simple dignity and benevolent courtesy which Mak
gentlemen. He died universally Lament.
The grave of Joseh OTIS as well as that of his wife, is at the old
cemetery on Raymond Hill at Montville, Connecticut, USA about 6 miles
from New London. Their tombstones are Mae of native slabs selected from
some water curse Ruley shaped up in Old English Style.
