I have just been looking at various O'Byrne items and found your web
page. I do not know if you are aware but your Edmund was Bank manager in
Carrickmacross in the mid 1850s and there is a record of a presentation
made to him on his removal to Kells. Also I have found a reference to the
townland of Cloughvalley being divided bewteen Henry Byrne and John Moore
in the 1780s so perhaps this may be the father of Edmund. i am
researching these Byrne families who were referred locally as
Berne..........do you have any corresponding information? there are still
Byrne families living in the area but now spell the name as
Byrne...............although some have reverted to O'Byrne.
extractss from "the Irish American " 1857 dated August 8th....so
obviously he moved to Kells then. I checked the Trade Directories and he
is the Bank manager of the National Bank of Ireland in CMX in the mid
1850s. unfortunately no mention of his family
Monaghan -
A richly chased silver coffee and tea service, with hot water kettle, has
been presented by the inhabitants of Carrickmacross and its vicinity to
Edmund O'BEIRNE, Esq., late manager of the National Bank, on his removal
to Kells branch, in testimony of their approval of his conduct as an able
and zealous officer of that establishment, and in token of their sincere
respect and esteem.
