Although christened John Stephen I am known to all of my friends and
colleagues as Mick,a nickname I acquired many years ago in the early days
of my career as an Air Traffic Controller.To my relations I remain John.
My mother Margaret Annie Brownen was born 16 July 1912 in Southampton the
birth being registered in the Southampton Eastern Sub-District.I only
have the short copy of the birth certificate.She died,in childbirth,on 6
September 1948.I am not sure where the confusion over names arose as her
sister,Mary,lived until 1993 in Southampton.I visited her regularly as a
young man but less often as my work took me further afield.
Margaret married my father,Joseph Stephen (Joe) Bain at St Agnes church
in West Kirby,Wirral on 15th January,I think in1946.My father was born on
20th January 1917 in Hoylake Wirral and died 13th June 2001 having lived
all his life, with the exception of his wartime naval service,in Hoylake
and West
Kirby.
I was born on 6th September 1948 and have worked at a variety of
locations both in the UK and in Vanuatu in the South Pacific.I currently
work at Kirkwall Airport Orkney as an Air Traffic Controler.
My mother's sister Mary T married Richard (Dick) Wills,not Willis,they
had two children Theresa who is slightly older than me so the web site
year of birth is probably correct and Austen,not Austin,who is younger
than me born in 1949 or 50.
I am married,to Patricia Ellison Young (Patsy). born 12th April 1953.We
married 17th April 1982 and have twin sons:Robert (Robbie) and Stephen
who were born 13th March 1983 in Port Vila Vanuatu they are currently at
university;coincidentally Stephen is at Southampton.
I would be grateful for any additional information as my grandfather
seemed to go out of the lives of his children by his first wife and I
know very little about him.My Aunt Mary spoke often of other family
members but ,to me at least,not much of her father.I have had some
information about him from my cousin Theresa but not a great deal.I did
have a little contact with cousin Leo some years ago following the death
of a distant Irish cousin but again did not learn much family history.
