Defence Minister criticises attack on army facilities
The Minister for Defence, Michael Smith, has described as totally out of
place an attack on Defence Force facilities by a senior army officer.
Colonel Leo Brownen, the second in command of the army's Southern
Brigade, said there was something wrong when top-class facilities were
provided for the lowest criminal elements in prisons, while soldiers at
Collins Barracks lived in deprivation. Colonel Brownen made his comments
at a function in Cork attended by Mr Smith.
