There were no bids for the two shops and four cottages at the corner of
Lymington Road and Southern Lane, Old MiIton (the properties of the
brothers E. C. and S. H. Witt and Miss B. Witt), when they were put up
for auction. The auctioneer, Mr. J. E. Hemens, asked for an opening bid
of £8,000, but then was no response, and when there were still no
starting bids at £5,000, he withdrew the properties.
