Village smith was last of line of blacksmith from the reign of George II
Mr Ernest George ( Bob ) Brownen,of Enstone. Ashley road Hordle,
who was at the forge at 0ld Milton. Has been buried at Milton He was 76.
Mr. Brownen Was one of the family of 15 of the late Mr and Mrs.
Christopher Brownen he started work in the forge as soon as he had left
school and carried on business there until November 1953.
After 1949 he employed a man,but continued to work himself the forge part
time. A few months after his retirement the building was pulled down.
At Hordle Mr Brownen resided with two sisters Mrs. E L Asher and
Mrs M Harris The only surviving brother Mr Arthur William Brownen, lives
in
New Milton The Rev V Collas officiated at the funeral service.

Ernest George was left the use of the Old Smithy, Milton for his working
life, on retirement in 1953 it was sold for 800 pounds and the proceeds
(After Costs) was shared among his Brother's and Sisters.
