Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, 08-Jun-2001 in the
Steverson Funeral Home Chapel in Anadarko for Irene Marie Brownen. Mrs.
Brownen, 90, of Anadarko died Wednesday, 06-Jun-2001 in Grady Memorial
Hospital in Chickasha, Ok. Burial will be in Binger's Murray Cemetery
under the direction of the Steverson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Brownen was born 15-Mar-1911 in the Spring Creek community near
Gracemont, Ok. to Bob and Willie Agnes (Collins) Eldredge. She married
William Harvey Brownen in the late 1920's. She grew up in the Spring
Creek and rural Anadarko areas and attended Spring Creek school. She and
her husband resided in Anadarko until his employment at the Granite
Reformatory at Granite, Ok. in the mid 1940's. The couple moved back to
Anadarko after his retirement. She was employed by several nursing homes
and worked as a private caregiver. She had been a resident of the Binger
Nursing Home for the last three years and was a member of the Church of
Christ. She enjoyed playing dominoes, Wahoo and card games. She also
enjoyed reading her Bible until her eyesight failed.
Preceding her in death were her husband in 1975; her parents; her son,
Raymon Brownen in 1963; three sisters, Josephine Matthews, Pearl
Schoonover, and Mable Barber; and three brothers, Charlie, Robert and
Henry Eldredge. Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Dora Jean Brownen
of Binger; two grandsons, Dennis Brownen and his wife, Delouise, of
Binger and Richard Brownen and his wife, Traci, of Minco; one
granddaughter, Lisa King and her husband Gary of Binger; 11
grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Agnes Cooper of
California; one brother-in-law, Paul Barber of Anadarko and numerous
nieces, nephews and loving friends.
