However, the 1880 census lists him as two years of age, supporting the
1877 date.

farmer on a rented general farm, working on his own account. He could
read and write. His wife, Lula, was 24 and born in Texas.
She was also literate. The children, all born in Oklahoma, were: Bertha
C., 9; Mary E., 7; Samuel L., 5; and Edna H., 2.
